Florissant Fossil Beds Invites You to Celebrate Your Heart and Your Loved Ones this February
Saturday, February 18, Great Backyard Bird Count The Friends of Florissant Fossil Beds along with Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument will host the 20th annual Great Backyard Bird Count on Saturday, February 18, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Counting birds is a fun, family friendly way to discover and help the birds in your community and take part in a nationwide science project.
There will be three opportunities to count birds. The times are 9:00 AM, 10:00 AM, or 11:00AM. You may participate in one or all if you would like. Meet at the visitor center. There will also be other hands on activities and crafts also taking place throughout the day and a bird presentation at 12:00 PM in the Visitor Center.
Monday, February 20, Presidents’ Day, Fee FREE Day and Heart Healthy Ranger Guided Hike In honor of Presidents’ Day the Monument, as well as the other 417 national park units, will offer free admission. Bring your loved ones and join a ranger for a heart healthy, ranger guided, 3 mile hike at 10:00 AM. Meet at the visitor center. Dress in layers with appropriate foot gear for conditions.
Friday, February 24, A Night Under the Stars – Night Sky Program, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. What better way to celebrate your loved ones or your valentine then spending a night under the stars? Join park staff and members of the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society to gaze at the dark skies above Florissant Fossil Beds in search of planets, galaxies, nebulas, and more. Meet at the visitor center. There are no additional fees for any park programs beyond the daily entrance fee.
